Dorothy Ruth Purdue
August 11, 1929 - November 25, 2011

Dorothy Ruth Clinton Purdue, 82,  passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 in St. Vincent Health Center.
She was born in Laurel, Miss., daughter of the late James and Lorraine Henry Clinton.
She came to Erie as an infant with her parents and lived in Erie and Pittsburgh, Pa. before settling in Erie to raise her children.
Dorothy attended the Erie Business Center where she earned an Associates Degree as a Medical Secretary. She was employed at several churches in the Erie area as Minister of Music. Dorothy was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was also Choir Director of the Erie Gospel Chorus.

She loved to play the piano (it was her first love) and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and arts and crafts. She especially loved her family and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Lee Gaines, and two sisters, Daisy Cox and Elmer Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Lenny Purdue, Jr. of Erie and David Purdue (Starr) of Macon, Georgia; six daughters, Lorraine Hamilton, Beverly Harden, Sharon Purdue, Janice Purdue-Dance and Dorothy (Jean) Purdue, all of Erie, and Carroll Hopkins of Glen Burnie, Md.; a brother, James (Darius) Clinton of Erie; two sisters, Doris Cox of LaGrange, Illinois and Dessie Talcot of Ithaca, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends visited with the family on Friday, 4 to 8 p.m., at Law Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave., and attended a service on Saturday, 11 a.m., at Shiloh Baptist Church, 901 E. 5th St., with Rev. Darlene Johnson of Shiloh Baptist Church officiating and Rev. Dr. Allen B. Green of Second Baptist Church eulogizing.

Interment in Lakeside Cemetery.

As Dorothy's family prepare to say their goodbyes, I prepare a place for her here, at Life Ever After.
Dorothy, say hello to my parents for me.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the entire Purdue Family. what a joy Dorothy was to be around. When she sat on that piano seat, her spirit and joy would just soar. It was infectious! I used to roll around town with Mama Lomax and Mama Purdue and I got to tell you, we laughed and had ourselves a good old time. I will cherish those memories we made together and you all do the same. She lives on through you all. Lean on the Lord and each other through this very difficult time.
Beverly, I am here anytime, call me! Purdue Children and Family, See your Mother in each other!
